Market Planning Necessities

County Website – The Official website of Cobb County, Georgia

County Code – The Official Municipal Code of Cobb County. Please check with the county offices for any recent additions, changes or modifications.

The Planning Division - Is responsible for comprehensive planning for the county. Planning coordinates the plans and development policy between Cobb County and other jurisdictions. There are five primary responsibilities: long-range (comprehensive) planning, research, preservation, local planning (intergovernmental) and mapping.

Cobb County's Geographic Information System - In simple terms, the GIS staff is tasked to create a comprehensive and accurate digital computer map of the county. This digital computer map will contain technical and business information about locations and events within the county that will have value to many potential customers.

Community Development Agency – Building Inspections - In order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens in the permitting jurisdiction of the unincorporated areas of Cobb County, all construction must meet a series of requirements set forth by specific building codes. This includes new construction, additions to existing structures and remodeling. Both residential and commercial construction must meet these codes, and it is our job to enforce them.

Business License Division - The Business License Division is responsible for the collection of Business Registration Certificate Fees, Occupation Taxes, Liquor by the Drink Taxes, Alcoholic Beverage Excise Taxes, Hotel/Motel Occupancy Taxes, Financial Institution Taxes, Cable Franchise Fees, and various other business related taxes as outlined in the Cobb County Code of Ordinances. The Business License Division is also responsible for the issuing of all alcoholic beverage licenses, taxicab / vehicle for hire licenses, and many other specially regulated business licenses.

The Community Development Agency - is the development-coordinating agency for Cobb County. It is responsible for implementing federal and state environmental mandates; it advises the Board of Commissioners and the general public on development and planning issues as they affect the environment, financial, economic, legal, and social welfare of Cobb County; and it has a responsibility to maintain and increase the quality of life in the County as deemed necessary by the Board of Commissioners and County residents.

Cobb Traffic Counts - Cobb County Department of Transportation collects and maintains a traffic count database for most roads within the County. The Traffic Count Map includes counts taken from the last 3-4 years and is periodically updated.

Rules and Regulations for Food Service Establishments - This is Chapter 290-5-14 of the Official Code of Georgia and it governs the construction, permitting, and operation of food service establishments. Please contact your local Environmental Health Office if you have questions regarding the Rules and Regulations.

Cobb County Water System  - Provides water, sewer and storm-water management services to more than 680,000 people in households and businesses. In addition, we provide wastewater treatment services to all of Cobb County including the cities of Austell, Marietta, Powder Springs and Smyrna, and small portions of Bartow, Cherokee, Douglas and Fulton counties and the City of Atlanta.

The First Stop Business Information Center - Provides the small business owner and the prospective entrepreneur with a central point of information and contacts for state regulatory requirements for operating a small business. The primary objective of the center is to facilitate sustainable small business development in Georgia by offering a central location for determination of what licenses and permits must be obtained and maintained by individuals and businesses conducting their enterprises in our great state.

Annual Traffic Counts - Traffic volumes for each of Georgia's 159 counties are counted on an annual basis.
